Like most areas in the United States, the land on which Moorestown now stands on was once home to Native Americans. The Lenni Lenape Native Americans who settled down here were attracted to the land because of its environment and the two springs that could be found here. As the years went by, white settlers found themselves here although it cannot be said for certain exactly when they came.
Back in 1682, when the road from Burlington to Salem cut across these lands, there were no Moorestown, NJ luxury homes to speak of. The landscape was virtually untouched. Little by little those who bought land here began to settle down and establish their roots. Dr. John Rodman with his 500 acres of land, Thomas Hooton with his 600 acres, and Thomas Moore who settled here with his wife in 1722, were some of the first people to catapult Moorestown to what it is today.
Originally a Quaker town, the only way to get to and around Moorestown Property until 1867 was by stagecoach. Eventually the iron horse took over and travel to Moorestown became quicker. Named after Thomas Moore who ended up owning a big chunk of land in the area, Moorestown split from Chester and became a township. It is interesting to note that Moorestown is more than three centuries old yet was only incorporated on March 11, 1922.
Stemming from a rich past, Moorestown is now the site of many luxury homes which appeal to those with discerning tastes. The homes, ranging from various architectural styles and sizes, are a wise investment.
